My Country.

We always complain about our country. Americans complain about theirs, Canadians, Japanese, the Brits, hell, everyone does. We do, too. We complain that the oil price is too high, we gotta curb this, we gotta abolish that, and we see homicides and violent acts in the name of religion or race as something normal. This scares me. Is this the country I wanna live in? Is this the country where I would bring my future child into? Will I be able to die a ripe old age without getting stabbed or slashed for RM30 bucks in my beat up wallet by snatch thieves who are getting way out of hand?

We Malaysians boast that we are a multi-racial country, with our "perpaduan" spirit and "muhibah" shite. If so, what's with the "ketuanan Melayu" or in English, "Malay superiority"? Is this our idea of a multi-racial, everyone-is-equal country that our forefathers strive for in the past? Is this our idea of 1Malaysia?

Burning of churches, corrupt government officials, gangsterism, fights based on racism issues,religious issues, bumiputra prices for virtually everything and anything in Malaysia, corrupt policemen,politicians, we took it all. We took it in silence, we carried on as if nothing is wrong. Like the Chinese say, we are only looking for wealth. Therefore, alot of us just took it because it simply was just too much trouble to rise up and speak out against these people who take advantage of our silence. Some of us couldn't take it and left for greener pastures overseas, never to return. Some of us couldn't afford it, and bore the brunt of the injustice done to us.

In time, we forgot that we are a democratic country. We forgot that politicians, policemen, firemen, the government, are all there to serve the people, the citizens, hence they are aptly named "civil servants". To serve the country, their country. A country is nothing without its citizens. We began to fear them, and these malicious opportunistic hyenas feast and thrive in our silent fear, growing in power each and every day, until finally, we are where we are today.

So blame not the country for its wrongdoings, for its coverups, for the corruption, for the embarassment it causes when our country stands before the eyes of the world. Our representative sucks, he repeats his answers to different questions, but only because he is a puppet of the government, and the puppetmaster has only the ability to answer thus.

Blame not your fellow Chinese, Indians, Sikhs, and all the ethnic minority in our multi-racial country to return to their roots, with all the calls to "balik Tong Shan, balik India, balik etc", eventually they will go. How can one live in a house that rejects them?

So my fellow Malaysians, as proud as we know we are, the future generation of this once glorious country, if we do not do something about this issue at hand, we will fall. Divided, obliviated, annihilated by our own hands. Our previous generations of leaders has caused us problems, bringing in religion and racism into political wars and tightening the noose around our country's neck. War would bring ruin to us all.

Now they torch churches in the middle of the night. When will it be when they drag us around town behind motorcycles, feet bound and blood trailing behind us? Is this what they meant by "tanah tumpahnya darahku"?

I love my country. If we don't change, it is lost forever.
